Makaton
Makaton can be seen being used within the class rooms in which the Teaching Assistants work.
Mrs McBurnie runs a signing club after school. This was originally intended to be for ten children in years 2-6. Mrs McBurnie got an overwhelming amount of children and staff wanting to participate, so it was opened up to more children. It quickly became the most popular club in school, which shows a great deal about the children at Rillington Primary School. We have children within the school who use Makaton as a communication tool and speaking with the children within school it quickly became apparent that they wanted a way to communicate with them. The club learn basic signs, watch music videos from Singing Hands and join in and also they made a video for the story The Snail and the Whale.
